Generally speaking, edible oil refining process mainly includes three parts: deacidification section, bleaching section and deodorization section; but for some oils, dewaxing and fractionation are required to reach the first-class edible oil standard, for example, rice bran oil, sunflower oil; cottonseed oil need dewaxing and dephenolization; and palm oil needs fractionation equipment to obtain better quality edible grade palm oil.
Vegetable oil refinery is used to remove harmful substances in crude oil, which can reasonably speed up the quality of edible oil. At the same time, it can be used to refine various vegetable oils; the loss of oil varies with the oil products, and the damage is also different; The specific oil refining process should be designed according to the characteristics of the crude oil.

2. Deacidification Stage: a. Alkali refining deacidification (caustic soda, chemical refining) --- By-product: soap stock b. Deacidification by distillation (steam, physical refining) --- by-product: fatty acids | Sodium hydroxide (NaOH) is used to neutralize the free fatty acids in the oil. In this process, some soap stock will be produced and separated from the oil; lye is not only used to neutralize free fatty acids, it can also neutralize excess phosphoric acid; in intermittent and semi-continuous refining processes, we use precipitation to separate soap stock; but in the fully continuous refining process, we use a centrifuge to separate soap stock, and the centrifuge is highly efficient. |
3. Decolorization Stage: Adsorption decolorization (white clay, activated carbon and other adsorption materials) | Because crude oil contains pigments, the color of the oil will be darker; in order to improve the color of the oil and obtain high-quality edible oil, we need to use activated clay and other media to absorb the pigments, and then use a vibration filter to separate the waste clay; |
4. Deodorization Stage and Dehydration Stage: Distillation method, vacuum stripping principle (physical refining-deacidification/deodorization at the same time) | The smell of crude oil is not very good, which will affect the storage and selling price of the oil, so we usually use direct steam to remove the smell of crude oil; at the same time, the oil also contains 0.5% of water, and the high temperature in the deodorization tower will remove the water. |
